Music Auditions…

March 28th, 2007 No Comments

Auditions for Dessert Theatre Music were today - people were actually really good! I even got several strong male singers out there, which is always hard. Luckily, I don’t have to post the cast list until after Spring Break - so I still have time to pick out the final songs. Speaking of which, here’s a few of the songs I’m thinking about doing:

Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf (good energy)
Baby, It’s Cold Outside - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan (Ella Fitzgerald is perfect for ACTING songs)
Caledonia - Celtic Woman (I totally need some foreign songs here, and this gives me a chance to use my flutist)
I Was Meant for the Stage - The Decemberists (actually the director’s idea - she wants a song about acting, which is cool, I guess)
Footloose - Kenny Loggins (more high energy, takes care of the 90s)
Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie (people kill me when I mention this song, but sorry - I like it. Very down tempo too, which will be a nice change)
Hit Me with Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar (w00t - 80s!!!)
Two Worlds - Tarzan/Phil Collins (we also needed Disney - for comedic purposes)
I Don’t Know You Anymore
- Savage Garden (pretty much my favorite group. I think I may need to sing this one…)

P.S.
Anyone that makes fun of my music choices dies. Or doesn’t get in. Whichever’s easier.

P.P.S.
I love how I got several hits from the Adobe ISP for my rant about how unfair they’re being…

I love Adobe. Well…

CS3 Master Collection

Yay! Adobe officially announced Creative Suite 3 today, and as anyone that knows me will tell you, I’m quite estatic over the news. Sure, the Master Collection edition will cost you $2,500 - but look at what you get!

Now, I’m a sixteen-year-old. I don’t work. I also don’t need the Master Collection… *sigh* But I’ve got to tell you, the Production Premium version looks pretty darn nice for what I do… I have Production Studio Premium right now, which is quite possibly the best thing I ever bought. Premier Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop - my computer would seem useless without these. I’m honestly really psyched about the CS3 versions of Photoshop, Premier, and After Effects, not to mention their new sound editing software: Soundbooth. My live-saver: educational editions and upgrade pricing. Yay - a $1,700 box of software suddenly comes down to $600. Hmm… but I still have nowhere near enough money to pay for that… Oh yeah, I can get an upgrade discount too! I mean, CS3 Production Premium is the official successor to Production Studio Premium, which I own. But wait… no special pricing for upgrades. If I bought the same software now as I did last summer (now $150 less, I might add) I’d get upgraded to CS3 Production Premium for free. But they won’t even take $50 off.

The point of upgrade pricing is to encourage previous users to buy from a company again. It makes the user feel as though the money they spent on the last edition didn’t go to waste. Apparently, Adobe’s throwing that philosophy out the window. I’m here with my Paypal account, ready to prance on CS3… And you push me back, Adobe. Why?! I’m one of the few teenagers that actually pays for software they could easily get bootleg copies of. And how do you repay me, Adobe? By slapping on an even larger price tag. Also, please note I hold nothing against any of my readers that don’t pay for Adobe software. I love you all!

Hmm… you know what, I’ve been thinking about trying out Final Cut Pro a bit, maybe getting away from Premier Pro. I wonder how that would make Adobe feel…

I come from answers phones at dear old WNRN - which means it’s fund drive week-and-a-half! But I will spare you all the mindless advertisement. What’s important is what I found while on one of the studio computers while waiting for my next pledger. I opened up Google, and realized it had one of those drop-down lists of everything people have searched for on that computer. So here it is - a selected list of what NRN DJs look at while off the air:

Ideal+Patriot+Panel+Cat+Doorpad
‘feminist porn’
Rediocarbon Dating
bury a body
cockfighting virginia
how to grow magic mushrooms
s*& machine f$^%ing
s*&ecutioner
vermont prison cats

I wonder what’s stored in the On-Air computer…

For the past month or so, I have been incapable of getting up on time. I swear, I haven’t consciously heard my alarm clock in weeks. I’ve tried moving it far away from my bed - I just sleep through it. Making it a really annoying beeping sound - yet I still manage to find the snooze button 7:40. It hasn’t destroyed my life… I always got to school about 20 minutes early, so even though I’m later than usual, I still get to class on time.

In other news: the T-Tones concert last night went really well. Despite have SM78 instead of SM58 (man, who gave us those mics anyway? I mean, 78s?!?!), it sounded pretty good - we did three songs. You know, someday, the T-Tones are going to host the Sirens. We will not be the opening act forever, we will be the stars one day!!!

The set for the Martian Chronicles is coming down so quickly. I’m sitting in the Black Box at the moment, looking at the pitiful wooden frames of the once-beautiful structures, now barren with occasional splashes of orange paint. I swear, it will all be gone by tomorrow. *sigh* Now we await for next year…

New Domain

March 25th, 2007 No Comments

I finally decided to give in and get my own domain name. With that came a new name, of course: 540 Mbps. Call it stupid, random, whatever you like (it’s based off the maximum possible transfer rate of new 802.11n wireless devices…) - but that’s what it’s called. Please mind the graphic for now - I just set this entire thing up (including the domain and hosting) in 80 minutes, give me a break. Hmm… I suppose I’ll have to update all the random RSS feeds that linked to my Blogger account.

Anyway, this is a short post. I have to finish my AP English application for next year (which is legally pointless…), write my play review for theatre, and read/summarize/create a thesis statement about three short stories by Isaac Asimov tonight, not to mention perform in an a cappella concert. Fun.
