I am severely upset. You see, Howl’s Moving Castle, a movie of course created my Miyazaki (and if you didn’t know that, I suggest for your own safety that you keep that information secret), opened on Friday. Problem A: It’s in Arlington, meaning it would take longer to drive there than the movie would actually last. Problem B: My parents have deemed it imprudent to drive for a total of 6 hours just to watch a 2 hour movie. Hello, it’s Miyazaki! I will remember this moment for the rest of my short life - the theater, where I sat, the strange taste of the pop straw, leading me to think it was laced with RAID. It could very well be one of the most important moments of my life! Yet no, we must wait until it opens in more than 36 theaters. Humph.
I can’t believe I’ve never talked about this before. About a month ago, my French teachers was talking about languages that were helpful. French is very helpful, she said. So are Far Eastern languages. She seemed to think Spanish wasn’t that helpful though. Because, “Despite the mass amounts of Mexicans migrating across the border into the US, there are many other languages we could be learning other than Spanish.” By the way, we have a girl in our class who is from somewhere in Latin America. “Oh, but I don’t mean you [referring to the girl]. You’re just visiting for a year, that’s ok. AND an educational visit, at that.” Let me paraphrase - “As long as you stay in our country for only a short time, and it’s purpose is educational, we don’t mind you staying here. However, if you plan to live here, or are simply moving here for work, we’ll label you as some sort of migrating race who shouldn’t be allowed in.” I’m afraid I failed to show the true horrible nature of that comment in my summarizing (and typing fast so I can’t get to the Film Festival).
For all you people that are complaining for my recent lack of posts, I have an explanation (though I’m not compelled to give one. Just because some people post every other day, doesn’t mean it’s required! Life is short, seize the day, or praise the Queen!). I’ve spent the past week transcribing conversations about differentiation in Vermont, with tape quality that makes it sound like the interviewees are chewing food. Plus, I read a 300 page book and wrote a three page reflection on it. ADDITIONALLY, I’ve been stressing out about a decision to take AP Chemistry next year, which is insane and means I will have to do a science fair project Junior year after all! Good grief.
36 theaters. Bull. If I find a way to guilt a parent into driving me to Arlington to see it, you, Michael (and Lee), can come along. whee.
But don’t diss RAID. My padre used to work for SC Johnson and for some reason, I think we have a framed picture of the RAID bug. weird.
Mme. Dowell can go die, assuming she’s who you have. I am WIZARD at spanish and spanish people… are just way less snobby than the french. Not to mention that I have a personal, country-based bias against the idiots. What I dont understand is if England hates France so much, why do they only teach french at those stupid prep schools? I guess that its useful to be able to curse at your ‘enemy/arch foe’ in their own language so they understand just how much you despise them.
AP Chem. Hmm. I’m doing advanced, like all the other honors kids who dont want an AP in their sophomore year. taking Spanish 3/4 ANNND Humanities is going to be quite vicious enough, thanks very much.
From what I have heard… you CANNOT take AP Chemistry without taking Chemistry-A first, but I am not really all that sure. Ask your guidance counsular (I mutilated that cou—r word… AHHH). Like Bio?? Take AP Bio!!
Bio. Grrr. I can learn all I need about that from watching The Magic School Bus, thank you very much. And Sarah, I have Chemistry-A, remember? Titration, Chemistry Fun Day, stop me if any of this sound familiar.
Michael read KITCHEN! Mara heart Michael! Michael like KITCHEN?
shut up, Michael.
OKAY I FORGOT.
brain don’t work when summer come
Yes, Kitchen is a good book. I also recommend:
Life of Pi!
Way cool, dude.
I’m hungry. Chow for now.
i dont like bio. when i take an AP, i will be taking ENVIROSCI
me encanta kitchen. from what i heard last night michael encanta kitchen tambien.
i’m also reading the alchemist and a handmaid’s tale. creepiest book ever. really awesome, even so. brilliantly written
I’m sorry, I suppose I was too harsh on you Sarah. Forgive me?
Michael did read Kitchen. Michael loved Kitchen. Michael finish journal on Kitchen this morning. Michael done with two of his journals. By the way, how long are everyone elses jounals?
i have yet to even get my books, so join in this discussion i cannot, although I’m reading very different books from everyone else. Although this means that I’m currently absorbed in Anna Karenina. I intend to finish it by the end of 2005. This is my goal. I only have 234 more chapters to go (serious!)
you said you were reading the alchemist? maybe you changed your mind.
i’ve read Kitchen and A Handmaid’s Tale and i’m partway through The Alchemist. I havent done journals yet, i’ll go back and contemplate those later.
I am reading the clasic, Guliver’s Travels; which far out merits Kitchen. Although I adore it emensily. The Hand Maids Tale is pretty good but shocking if you aren’t some what prepared. Though, the shock factor is somewhat good sometimes.
Gulliver, Mara. Good book. You’re right, A Handmaid’s Tale is slightly traumatizing, but its worth a read. terrifyingly plausible. i sound like the back of a book.
Don’t worry Sarah, no one can spell the c—r word anyway. Actually you can take AP without A, though I’m not sure it’s especially recommended.
mmhmmm?
I don’t know if I’ll take Michael’s apology at the moment. I am covered in painful, itching sunburn and not in the least bit cheerful mood, but OMGosh yesterday was FUN! (I’ll post about yesterday on my blog sooner or later.)
grrr… FINE. I need to be forgiving… SO I FORGIVE YOU. argh.
