Nu ma nu ma iei/stupid English!
February 20th, 2005Ah, the mystery has been solved. Apparently, the “Numa Numa Dance” video of a certain Gary Brolsma dancing to the song was shown on the Today show the Thrusday before last, which accounts for the sudden spike in seaching (can you say, “will definately be featured on Movers & Shakers on the Lycos 50 next week”?). In case any of you want to see the video in action, go here.
I think that we have decimated the legitamacy of the English language (Japanese starts to look better and better for a universal language all the time…). Take the word, “incredible” for example. No one wants to use the word “unbelievable” (I have personal anger issues with this word), but you can’t switch it with “incredible” any more because it has come to mean “amazing”. Would you call something, “morbid” if you thought it was light-hearted? No, so you don’t use “incredible” as a positive! To be fair, both meanings have roots in the phrase, “not believable”, but it’s still barbaric how we mutilate these words. Not that I’m defending the original English language, but don’t we confuse people learning it?
Note: I am never painting another wall in my house again!
