Part of my hand may very well be sitting in the Black Box at this very moment…

February 26th, 2005 by Michael Strickland

Ah, Friday was so wonderful. I got horrible grades on two tests, missed my cue in rehearsal, and best of all, ripped my hand open. I’m typing with 1 1/2 hands right now because I no longer have a portion of my skin at the base of my thumb. I was in West Side Story rehearsal, and we were running through the “cool” dance, in which we snap a lot and dance on chairs. Sometime during my spin on my chair, I must have caught my thumb on something, because when I was finished with the dance and started to snap again, I realized a sizeable amount of blood covering my thumb. It was rather funny though, because my cut was right where your finger hits your hand when you snap, and I was thinking to myself, “was I really snapping that hard?”. I unfortunately still had about five minutes of scene left after that though. At least it didn’t hurt much until today.

TV rant time. I hate the new Law and Order guy. The only channel I get with Anime is Cartoon Network, and that makes me mad. Star Trek: Enterprise has been cancelled! Take that, Scott Bakula! It is a sad thing that Richard Dean Anderson has only four regular episodes left. I still don’t get the WB. And you all know my opinion of G4TechTV.

Oh no, it’s an Ohmu!

February 24th, 2005 by Michael Strickland

One last post about Dragostea Din Tei, then I’m done, I promise! The guy that created the song was on the Today show yesterday and he performed the English version of the song. Or rather, some other guy (that sucked, by the way) performed the English version of the song (which also sucked, by the way) while the original Romanian signer said about 10 words. The main performer actually said, “let me hear you say, WOO, WOO!”. That was about the time I wanted to turn it off. Meanwhile, the song now holds the top three spots of iTunes Dance. And to think, some 19 year old from New Jersey is responsible for all of this (though surprisingly, wasn’t enough to get onto the Lycos 50. Shame.).

I got Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind yesterday and finished watching it this morning (no school, snow). Oh, it was so wonderful, but kind of disturbing as you saw the parallels between the poison spores raining down and the snow falling down outside, which looked exactly the same. I haven’t watched it in English yet though, I’m scared of Shia LaBeouf as Asbel. I can’t wait to watch Porco Rosso, now!

Nu ma nu ma iei/stupid English!

February 20th, 2005 by Michael Strickland

Ah, the mystery has been solved. Apparently, the “Numa Numa Dance” video of a certain Gary Brolsma dancing to the song was shown on the Today show the Thrusday before last, which accounts for the sudden spike in seaching (can you say, “will definately be featured on Movers & Shakers on the Lycos 50 next week”?). In case any of you want to see the video in action, go here.

I think that we have decimated the legitamacy of the English language (Japanese starts to look better and better for a universal language all the time…). Take the word, “incredible” for example. No one wants to use the word “unbelievable” (I have personal anger issues with this word), but you can’t switch it with “incredible” any more because it has come to mean “amazing”. Would you call something, “morbid” if you thought it was light-hearted? No, so you don’t use “incredible” as a positive! To be fair, both meanings have roots in the phrase, “not believable”, but it’s still barbaric how we mutilate these words. Not that I’m defending the original English language, but don’t we confuse people learning it?

Note: I am never painting another wall in my house again!

I must say, I’m surprised. I never thought a song …

February 17th, 2005 by Michael Strickland

I must say, I’m surprised. I never thought a song could do it, but one had. For the entire time that I’ve been familiar with the Dance section of iTunes, “Heaven” by DJ Sammy has always remained the number 1 song. But on Wednesday, CHS News Live (a video program that comes on every morning at our school where students read the morning anouncements, which plays music before the bell rings) played the song “Dragostea Din Tei” (probably more commonly known in the US as the “Numa Numa” song). I’d never heard it before, but it’s been out for a while. Then suddenly right after they play it at school, it beats one of the best selling dance songs known to man (pop techno or not)? And if would have done so sooner had there not been about three identical versions of the song on iTunes for people to choose from (the same song is taking up three spots on the top ten list). Ok, that was boring, but I feel like an era has ended. Posted by Hello

5 weeks until new Moby CD!

February 14th, 2005 by Michael Strickland

Awesome, new Moby single. Hyperness looks strange on me, as anyone that saw me today will tell you. I downloaded a Japanese IME yesterday, which is very neat. It’s an Input Method Editor which allows me to type Japanese on my keyboard in any program. I doubt you’ll be able to see this unless you have Japanese characters installed on your computer, but I still want to show it:

あなたわにっぽんごわかりますですか

I just have spelled that so terribly, but it should still make sense those who are cultured enough, *glares at everyone who doesn’t know Japanese*.
